Together with two friends, I went on a trip to Ireland. It was more of a Holiday than an expedition, but I heard of the story of Castle Island in Lough Key, Roscommon County. When I told my friends that there is an Island in the middle of a lake that houses the ruins of a castle they were fascinated as well. We booked a small cottage with a boat right at the lake. The Host of the cottage told us that on almost every Island on the Lough Key there are ruins that once were abbeys or other settlements but one after another the people on the Islands fled. My friends and I were not scared by the story and got the boat out to visit some of the Islands. We started with the Island we came for, Castle Island, an amazing piece of architecture and full of rich history. After Castle Island, we visited a few smaller islands some with the ruins of churches, houses, and other buildings on them. Then we came to Sally Island. We explored the Island a bit until we came to a giant stone table in the middle of the woods. The stone table had strange markings on it and was tilted a little with a notch at the end. On the Table was the carcass of a Goat that once was tied to the table. It was killed with a knife just a few months ago. we found another goat nearby that was still alive but poisoned. We called the police but haven't heard anything that came out of that.
