When I dare to go to France, It has to be for something special. So when I heard to Story of a man who hid his priced collection of valuable Stamps (The second most valuable collection at the time) together with some Egyptian artifacts from Excavations he sponsored, on the property of his Chateau, so the Nazis won’t get them, I was kinda sold.
Maurice Burrus, The owner of the Chateau back in the day, was a tobacco manufacturer and famous boss. Besides this, he was an eccentric collector of stamps and had an impressive collection, with some really valuable stamps. Also, he sponsored some excavations in Egypt, which he would visit on occasion and bring back some artifacts.
During the Second World War though, the chateau was captured by the Nazis requisitioned, and transformed into a training center for SS officers. Before this though good old Maurice hid his most valuable items and buried them somewhere on his property.
This hidden Treasure was never found, or reclaimed again, and that is where yours truly comes into the story. I got a permit to visit the Place and take some pictures, but I never found any interesting place to further investigate.
The Chateau was renovated shortly after my visit and is now a Hotel you can visit.
