The sword in the stone, the Arthurian legend, we all heard it one way or another, but the amazing thing is you can actually find real artifacts that have some connection to the story in the real world.
Most of those places and artifacts are of course located in the place of origin of the story; England, But there are some that are a hair of course, in Italy to be more precise.
There is a story of a sword in the stone, much like Excalibur, in Tuscany. Their story goes like this: A man called San Galgano, a knight, had visions of the Archangel Michael telling him to get rid of all his earthly belongings, become a hermit, and live in a cave. You know things you usually would do on a wild Saturday night. You see our pal, San Galgano, wasn’t much of a fan of the idea of loose all of his shiny cool things, so he told Micheal “that it is as easy for a nobleman to get rid of all of his belongings as it is to push a sword into stone” so The angel told him to try it, San Galgano did, it worked and he became a hermit in a cave. we've all been there, right?
The story with the angels sounds all mumbo jumbo to me but I visited the Sword in the Stone in a small chapel on top of a hill in Tuscany, and what can I say, it is legit. I am really interested in how it got there, and what the real story is. But I wasn’t allowed to do some testing on the sword and the surrounding stones.
